What Is Steel Sheet Pile?
Steel sheet piles are a type of steel with interlocking joints. They come in various sizes and interlocking configurations, including straight, channel, and Z-shaped cross-sections. Common types include Larsen and Lackawanna. Their advantages include high strength, ease of driving into hard soil, and the ability to be constructed in deep water, with the addition of diagonal supports to create a cage when necessary. They offer excellent waterproofing properties, can be formed into cofferdams of various shapes, and are reusable, making them versatile.

Classification of Steel Sheet Piles
Cold-formed steel sheet piles: There are two types of cold-formed steel sheet piles: non-interlocking cold-formed steel sheet piles (also known as channel sheets) and interlocking cold-formed steel sheet piles (available in L, S, U, and Z shapes). Production process: Thin sheets (commonly 8mm to 14mm thick) are continuously rolled and formed within a cold-formed rolling mill. Advantages: Low production line investment, low production costs, and flexible product length control. Disadvantages: The thickness of each part of the pile body is uniform, making it impossible to optimize cross-sectional dimensions, resulting in increased steel consumption. The shape of the interlocking parts is difficult to control, the joints are not tightly secured and cannot stop water, and the pile body is prone to tearing during use.
Hot-rolled steel sheet piles: Hot-rolled steel sheet piles worldwide mainly come in several categories, including U-shaped, Z-shaped, AS-shaped, and H-shaped, with dozens of specifications. The production, processing, and installation of Z- and AS-shaped steel sheet piles are relatively complex and are primarily used in Europe and the United States. U-shaped steel sheet piles are predominant in China. Production process: Formed by high-temperature rolling on a section steel mill. Advantages: Standard dimensions, superior performance, reasonable cross-sections, high quality, and a tight interlocking seal for watertightness. Disadvantages: Technical difficulty, high production costs, and limited specification range.


Application of Steel Sheet Pile
River Management: In river widening, dredging, or embankment reinforcement projects, steel sheet piles can be used to construct temporary or permanent retaining walls to prevent water seepage and slope collapse, ensuring a dry and stable construction area.
Port and Terminal Construction: They are used in the construction of structures such as dock walls and breakwaters. Steel sheet piles can withstand wave impact and water erosion, providing a stable foundation and protection for dock facilities.
Pit Support: U Shape Steel sheet piles are often used as support structures in foundation pit excavation for construction projects and underground pipelines.
Underground Engineering: Steel sheet piles can be used for temporary support or as part of permanent structures in the construction of underground passages and tunnels.
Pipeline Laying: Steel sheet piles can be used to support trench excavation for laying underground water and gas pipelines.
Flood Control and Drainage: During the rainy season or flooding, steel sheet piles can quickly construct temporary flood barriers to prevent floodwater from invading low-lying urban areas or critical facilities.
Sewage treatment plant construction: Steel sheet piles can be used as foundation pit support structures in the construction of sedimentation tanks, reaction tanks, and other structures within sewage treatment plants.
Landfills: Steel sheet piles are used in the construction of landfill cutoff walls. They effectively prevent leachate from seeping into the underground soil and water, reducing environmental pollution.
