Wide flange beams (W‑beams) are the most common hot-rolled section used in North American commercial, industrial and infrastructure construction. With parallel‑flange H-shape geometry, these profiles provide superior strength-to-weight for floor joists, column beams, bridge beams and industrial steel construction. Nominal sizes can be used for rough calculations but designers and contractors often refer to a wide flange beam dimensions chart in order to relate nominal sizes with actual section properties to design works that are AISC compliant. ASTM A992 continues to be the dominant grade for US building steel, with ASTM A36 and A572 Grade 50 also being available for special-load conditions.
