Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel C Channel Chemical Composition & Mechanical Properties
ASTM A36 Chemical Composition
| Standard | C | Mn | P | S | Si | Cu |
| ASTM A36 | ≤0.26% | — | ≤0.040% | ≤0.050% | ≤0.40% | ≥0.20%* |
Note:
* The manganese content of ASTM A36 varies depending on the product type, thickness, and manufacturing specifications; not all A36 products have a uniform maximum value.
** Copper content requirements generally apply to specified weathering/copper steel conditions; specific requirements should be based on purchasing standards and MTC.
ASTM A36 Mechanical Properties
| Standard | Yield Strength | Tensile Strength | Elongation | Elastic Modulus | Poisson's Ratio |
| ASTM A36 | ≥250 MPa (36 ksi) | 400–550 MPa (58–80 ksi) | ≥20% | ≈200 GPa | ≈0.26–0.30 |
Note: The specific chemical composition limits for A36 vary depending on the product form (plate, section, bar, etc.) and the applicable ASTM clauses. It is recommended to determine the final table according to the specific product standard and MTC to avoid directly applying the A36 composition of plate to formed channel steel.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel C Channel Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing process of hot-dip galvanized steel C channel combines precision steel forming with zinc coating technology to provide structural strength and corrosion resistance for construction, solar mounting, and industrial applications.
1. Raw Material Preparation
Steel coils, commonly carbon structural steel such as ASTM A36, are inspected for thickness, width, chemical composition, and surface condition before production.
2. Slitting
The steel coil is slit into the required strip width according to the final C channel dimensions.
3. Roll Forming
The steel strip passes through a series of precision forming rollers to create the C-shaped profile. Channel height, flange width, lip size, and thickness are controlled during this process.
4. Punching & Cutting
For slotted C channel, holes or elongated slots are punched according to the required spacing and pattern. The formed channel is then cut to the specified length.
5. Hot-Dip Galvanizing
The steel C channel is cleaned, pickled, and fluxed before being immersed in molten zinc. The zinc coating forms a protective layer on the steel surface, improving corrosion resistance.
6. Inspection & Quality Control
Finished galvanized C channels are checked for dimensions, straightness, slot accuracy, surface condition, and zinc coating requirements. MTC and third-party inspection can be provided when required.
7. Packaging & Delivery
The finished C channels are bundled with steel straps and prepared for container or bulk shipment.
Surface Finish
The HDG (Hot-Dip Galvanized) coating provides enhanced protection against moisture and atmospheric corrosion. Zinc coating specifications can be customized according to project requirements.
For higher corrosion-resistance requirements, Royal Steel Group can discuss suitable coating specifications based on the installation environment.
