Process of production

The production process of hot-rolled steel coil is a key link in steel manufacturing. It mainly forms the steel billet into the required plate shape through high-temperature rolling. The following are its core steps:

Hot-Rolled Steel Production Process (Simplified)

Raw Material Preparation: Start with continuously cast slabs or billets (150–300 mm thick). Surfaces are cleaned via flame scarfing or grinding to remove scale and defects.
Heating: Slabs are heated in a walking beam furnace to 1100–1300 °C for austenitization, ensuring ductility. Uniform temperature and timing are controlled.
Roughing: Slabs pass through reversing roughing mills to reduce thickness to 30–50 mm. High-pressure water descaling removes surface oxides.
Finishing: Intermediate bars are rolled in finishing mills to the target thickness (1.2–25 mm). AGC and flatness control ensure dimensional accuracy. Rolls are cooled and lubricated to prevent wear and deformation.
Cooling: Laminar cooling reduces strip temperature from ~800 °C to room temperature (30–50 °C/sec), controlling microstructure and mechanical properties.
Coiling: Strips are wound into coils under controlled tension (100–500 N/mm²) at 550–700 °C for proper shape and properties.
Post-Processing: Optional treatments include pickling, galvanizing/aluminizing, annealing for ductility, and flattening for surface finish.
Quality Inspection & Packaging: Final products are checked for dimensions, mechanical properties, and surface quality before coiling, bundling, and labeling per customer specifications.
