Features
Steel sheet piles are actually long, strip-shaped steel sections with locking mechanisms that can be driven into the ground to form a continuous wall. They are commonly used in retaining walls and water control projects, such as foundation pit construction, underground garages, and ship dock walls.
Classification:
1. Cold-formed steel sheet piles: Versatile and cost-effective
These steel sheet piles are produced through cold forming and have flexible cross-sectional designs. They are relatively inexpensive and have moderate stiffness. They are suitable for small-scale temporary infrastructure projects, such as municipal pipeline foundation pits and small retaining dams, and are mainly used for temporary retaining and water control purposes.
2. Hot-rolled steel sheet piles: High strength and durable
These steel sheet piles are produced through hot rolling. Their cross-section is stable and the locking mechanisms are tightly engaged. Compared to cold-formed steel sheet piles, they have greater stiffness and load-bearing capacity. They are more suitable for deep foundation pits or permanent projects, such as flood control embankments and port docks. They have a longer service life and higher reliability.
Advantages of steel sheet pile walls:
1. Construction speed is fast: As it is a prefabricated locking structure, it can be quickly assembled to form a continuous wall, thus shortening the construction period for the client.
2. Dual-purpose: It can not only be used for retaining soil but also for preventing seepage. They are applicable in scenarios such as foundation pit excavation and water-blocking projects for temporary support.
3. Reusable: The high-strength steel can be recycled, allowing for repeated use in multiple projects, reducing material waste and saving costs.
4. Compact footprint: The wall structure is compact, occupying less space, making it suitable for underground projects in urban areas with limited space.
5. Corrosion-resistant and durable: The steel can be galvanized for corrosion protection; hot-rolled steel sheet piles are more suitable for permanent projects and have a long service life.
6. Flexible selection: Multiple lengths and specifications are available, suitable for different soil types and depths, and can be used for both temporary and permanent projects.
Application
This article mainly introduces the main applications of hot-rolled steel sheet piles:
1. Deep foundation pit support: Hot-rolled steel sheet piles are applicable in deep excavation projects such as buildings and subways. They have stronger resistance to soil pressure and groundwater, and can avoid the risk of foundation pit collapse.
2. Water-facing permanent projects: Hot-rolled steel sheet piles can be used in ports, flood control embankments, river bank protection slopes, etc. They can withstand the pressure of water flow and remain stable even when immersed in water for a long time.
3. Large-scale cofferdam projects: Such as bridge foundations and water conservancy projects' cofferdams can all use hot-rolled steel sheet piles. Because they can be built into a closed water-blocking structure, enabling workers to conduct water-free operations.
4. Large-scale municipal projects: For example, underground comprehensive pipe galleries and urban hub construction, hot-rolled steel sheet piles can be used as long-term support and waterproof walls, capable of withstanding various complex load pressures.
5. Marine engineering: Shipyards, offshore facility construction, etc. can all use hot-rolled steel sheet piles. Because the product has strong rigidity and can be galvanized for corrosion prevention, it is suitable for environments with corrosion such as the ocean.
In summary, hot-rolled steel sheet piles can be applied in a wide range of scenarios. As long as some retaining, water-stop, or structural support is needed in infrastructure projects, hot-rolled steel sheet piles can be used.
Production Process
Packaging & Shipping
Packaging
For the packaging of U-shaped steel sheet piles, we will first stack and secure them neatly; then we will use specially made steel straps for binding, which is to prevent the products from shifting during transportation. Finally, we will wrap the entire stack with plastic films or waterproof papers and other moisture-proof materials to keep it dry, in order to prevent the steel sheet piles from rusting due to moisture.
Transportation
For the transportation of U-shaped steel sheet piles, we will flexibly choose flatbed trucks, containers or maritime transportation based on the quantity and weight of the sheet piles. We will also consider factors such as distance, construction period, freight cost and local transportation regulations. The bundled steel sheet piles will be reinforced again on the transportation vehicles, using some steel straps or support pieces for fixation. This is to prevent the U-shaped steel sheet piles from sliding or falling during transportation, thus avoiding losses.
